Mincher Koeman is thrilled to congratulate Zolani Ncube on her call to the Alberta Bar and welcome her as our newest associate. Zolani joined the firm as a Student-at-Law and quickly developed a passion for working on child welfare matters, particularly issues dealing with Hague Convention applications as well as the placement of First Nation children.

Originally from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Zolani travelled the world as the child of a diplomat before choosing to settle in Calgary in 2015.

Zolani obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) at the University of Capetown in South Africa before pursuing her Masters of Laws (LL.M.) in International Human Rights and Gender from the Washington College of Law at American University in Washington D.C. She then moved back to Zimbabwe, where she was called to the Bar before working at the Law Society in the area of Continued Legal Education.

After moving to Calgary, Zolani worked as a Judicial Clerk at the Alberta Court of Appeal where she gained an intimate understanding of the laws of procedure. While working as a Judicial Clerk, she commenced the process of requalifying as a lawyer in Alberta.

During her articles at Mincher Koeman, Zolani has had the opportunity to appear on a matter involving the Extra-Provincial Enforcement of Custody Orders Act and has assisted First Nation clients in ensuring cultural safety for their children by challenging the placement of Indigenous children in non-Indigenous homes.

Zolani was admitted as a lawyer in Alberta at the Court of Appeal on November 15th by the Hon. Justice Veldhuis after successfully completing her articles with Mincher Koeman Law Chambers. We are very excited to have Zolani joining the firm as an associate with a practice in family law, divorce and Indigenous family matters.

A team above all. Above all a team.
